GREATER NOIDA: A powerful message of women’s leadership, global diplomacy and space science emerged on Friday as Madam Veronique Herminie, First Lady of Seychelles, visited Mission Shaktisat in Greater Noida. Fondly known in her country as the ‘Mother of Seychelles’, Madam Herminie met the driving force and leader of Mission Shaktisat, affectionately known as ‘Space Mom’.
The visit took place on the occasion of Mission Shaktisat’s 19th Foundation Day and the Global Women Leadership and Diplomacy Summit held at Gautam Buddha Nagar University. Addressing young girl scientists and participants from different parts of the world, Madam Herminie emphasised the need to encourage girls and women to pursue science and technology and urged them to dream big.
She said that with the right opportunities, guidance and encouragement, girls can achieve new heights in science, technology, space research and leadership. Her interaction reinforced a powerful message among the young participants — there are no limits to the dreams of daughters. They can showcase their talent and capabilities from Earth to outer space and can even aspire to fulfil their dream of reaching the Moon.
According to the organisers, Mission Shaktisat is among the world’s largest all-girls lunar missions, with an initiative to bring together girl scientists from 108 countries on a common platform. The mission aims to connect the next generation of women with the frontiers of space science and exploration while providing them opportunities to develop scientific thinking, technical skills and leadership capabilities.
Global initiative receives international support
Madam Herminie’s presence at Mission Shaktisat was seen as an important expression of international support for the global initiative. Her visit added an influential international voice to the growing group of global patrons, supporters and dignitaries associated with the mission.
The programme also highlighted that space science is not confined to technology and laboratories alone. Women leaders, mentors and role models who inspire the younger generation to pursue their ambitions have an equally important role in advancing the cause of science and exploration.
Connecting daughters from more than 108 countries

Through the mission, young girls are being encouraged to pursue science and space research while being provided with a global platform to develop their skills, showcase their talent and explore future opportunities.
Mission Shaktisat is also associated with Space Kidz India, an organisation working to create opportunities for young people to engage with space science and technology and to make science education more accessible.
According to the organisers, Space Kidz India has experience in the development and launch of 27 satellite missions and has established a distinct identity in the field of student-led space science initiatives.Mission Shaktisat is being described as one of the organisation’s most extensive global initiatives, expanding its reach from the national level to an international platform.
Madam Veronique Herminie’s visit added a strong message of women’s leadership, international cooperation and the empowerment of girls through science and technology to the campaign.
